A COMPREHENSIVE
TANK INSPECTION
PROGRAM
A comprehensive API 653 tank inspection program can help to ensure uninterrupted operations and greatly reduce the likelihood of unexpected tank problems.
API 653 stated that a storage tank should be inspected within the first 10 years to establish the baseline data. Baseline data is used as a reference for future inspection.
Internal Inspection
1 | Visual Inspection
2 | UTTM – Thickness Measurement
3 | Foundation Civil Survey
4 | MFL – Magnetic Flux Leakage
5 | 3D Scan
External Inspection
1 | Visual Inspection
2 | UTTM - Thickness Measurement
3 | Foundation Civil Survey
Why Tank Inspection is required?
Identify problems and needed repairs before a significant leak or release occurs
Establish a baseline of tank condition and corrosion rates
Prevent leaks into secondary containment and/or groundwater
Maintain safe operating
conditions
Minimize chance of
catastrophic tank failure
